How You can achieve Your Goals?

This is a post that is relevant in all walks of life, whether you are a Student trying to score well, a Professional trying to scale new heights, a Sportsperson trying to achieve Excellence or a Beginner being an Expert in some field.

I deeply thought about it and a very good analogy gave me an answer to this question.

Step1: Define your Goal

This step is the most important one. You don’t choose any random goal. You don’t choose any goal without a Purpose. If You haven’t visualized yourself about the Goal,  on how you would feel or berate to others, once you have achieved it, then that isn’t a Goal.

A goal must have the following

  1. Easily defined, Purposeful, Visualized
  2. Leads to an improved state from a Current state
  3. Is bigger than the motive of self-absorption/admiration- something like good for community/ team/organization/society etcetera.
  4. Ability to learn during the journey of achieving it
  5. Can be instantly measured and find where one is with respect to achieving it.
  6. Ability to be broken into smaller goals
  7. Should be a part of day-to-day activities.
  8. Must be of timeframe of min 1 month or more.
  9. Commitment – so that you can never go back on it. So better to start it with an Announcement, Financial obligation, necessary pre-requisites/administration for the same, like registration etcetera

Example:  My goal is to run a Full Marathon this year.

Step2: Understand the right way of doing things to achieve your goal

This means that once you have your goal, you cannot immediately start executing and say you have achieved it. This means that it was a Task and not a Goal.

You need to break down the goal into subgoals, outline the steps towards achievement of the sub goal, measure them, consistently repeat them, optimize your performance, one satisfied with the performance, raise the bar of your subgoal or move to the next subgoal and repeat the steps. Most important is it is better to relax on the day prior to your Final Performance Day of the Goal.

To put it in a pictorial format.

Goals Framework

I believe this framework helps you to achieve your goals in a relaxed manner, making it enjoyable, lesser stressful, setting your own pace and understanding your capacity.

Remember, one can set a Goal at any Time and start their progression towards achieving them. That is the beauty of Goal setting.

Many definitions can be found for GOAL

Go Out And Lead

Go On And Learn

Get Out And Live

Go Onto Another Level

Get Organized At Last

My definition of GOAL would be “Greatest Of Able Levels”
